'Mellow Out' They Say. If I Only Could.

Intensities and Sensitivities of the Young and Bright

by Michael M. Piechowski, Ph.D.

Foreword by Nicholas Colangelo, Ph.D.

Royal Fireworks Press, 2014

Second, Revised Edition

This book is intended for parents and teachers of intense and sensitive young people and to serve the young people as a friendly mirror in which they can recognize themselves for who they are.

When she heard the author being interviewed on the radio, 10-year-old Emma Grace exclaimed: "Mom! He's talking about me! How does he know me?!" She then said, "That's how I feel. That's what goes on in my head too!"

What is new in this edition?

Chapter 4 introduces the concept of openness to experience that together with intuition and overexcitability forms the blend of personality characteristics typical of the great majority of gifted children.

Chapter 8 expands on the topic of visual-spatial, picture, and non-visual alternative thinkers.

Chapter 13 introduces the concept of emotional style and its six dimensions that have specific activation areas in the brain.

Finally, the topic of spiritual giftedness was expanded and divided into three chapters.

About the First Edition

This book is Michael Piechowski’s long awaited magnum opus on emotional intelligence. It resonates with the real voices of gifted adolescents who speak with insight and passion about the realities of their emotional lives. Read it. It is an important book that elucidates what bright teenagers think. Drawn into thematic order, using responses from open-ended questionnaires, this book adds to the literature on giftedness by going beneath the surface of high achievement into development.
